Strip 80

sinus rhythm

First Glance:

From across the room it looks like a tiny little sinus rhythm.

Discussion:

This is lead II, and everything about it looks normal if you take the 25% gain into consideration. The only thing I can say is the PR interval looks like its on the long side.

Final Impression?

Sinus rhythm @ ~95 bpm with borderline 1st degree AV block.

Management implications:

Nothing in particular.

The Take-home Point:

Unless you just told your patient a scary story, or the first year med student is putting in their first large bore IV, then 95 bpm is not really normal- especially at rest. So I wouldn’t call this ‘normal sinus rhythm’ personally. The books say it’s normal though.

1purple_starOne star strip. Students should identify the rhythm correctly.
